In this episode of the Future in 5 I share the eight driving forces and trends enabling the freelancer economy to grow, and why I think freelancers are going to take over the world. Recent statistics are confirming the growing freelancer economy. Intuit’s report says that by 2020, 40 percent of Americans are going to be freelancers. The Freelancers Union study said that 34 percent of the workforce in the United States is already doing freelance work. Some of the trends we’re seeing are companies like Uber, Airbnb, and Elance-oDesk that offer marketplaces and platforms for freelancers. And, we are actually seeing an ecosystem emerge supporting freelancers, which I give examples of. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I think it is really important for people to start paying attention to the freelancer economy as there is no sign of it slowing down. So, what do you think about the freelancer economy? Are you a freelancer? Have you tried freelancing? Tune in and let me know what you think.
