McKinsey Research on Collaboration Within the Networked Enterprise

Posted by on December 20, 2010

I’ve written about collaboration quite extensively in the past.  McKinsey recently released the results from a study they conducted around collaboration within the “networked enterprise.”  For my full review of the study along with a link to the direct report, I encourage you to visit and read the full article on CMSWire entitled: “The Networked Enterprise: Fact or Fiction?”  I found the research quite interesting and included a snippet below to tickle your fancy :)

McKinsey released some research that sheds light on the concept of the networked enterprise. But, does this research corroborate the reports we have been covering on the business impact of collaboration?

They surveyed over 3,200 executives to find out how Web 2.0 technologies were being used within the enterprise. Sixty-six percent of the respondents stated that they do use Web 2.0 technologies within their organizations. What’s more interesting is that a good portion of those surveyed also said they are seeing a measurable business benefit.

A report I wrote about last month showed that adoption numbers around these “Enterprise 2.0″ initiatives are still fairly low, so when I read the findings from the McKinsey report, I was a bit surprised. However, the fact that so many are reporting measurable benefits was not surprising at all as this corroborates the findings from a another previous report conducted by Frost & Sullivan which showed that collaboration impacts business performance.

If you would like to read the full report then please visit CMSWire where you can also download a free copy of the McKinsey research.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the report if you read it!

Hi Jacob, Nice post. Totally agree with your thoughts. I think this research is very powerful (esp. because of the McKinsey brand) in helping to make the case, like I do a lot for the benefits of social media! See my blog post “Have McKinsey proven the ROI of social media” http://www.adamlewis.info.
