always invest in yourselfA lot of people go through life fearing risk. It’s not hard to see why either, risk is a big thing. You can lose a lot and you can gain a lot, but either way you learn something. Now, I’m not talking about the risk that goes into gambling, I’m talking about the risk that goes in to betting on yourself. You know, a while ago I was very much interested in the stock market, I actually came quite close to being a broker a Morgan Stanley, but then one day, I saw the branch manager come into the office and let several of the employees go, one of which hired me. This made me think and then I realized, why do I need to invest in somebody else?

That is what you do when you buy stock, you invest in the people that running it, you are trusting them to do a good job, you are trusting them to be honest, and you are trusting that they are going to make business decisions that will benefit the company. Well I don’t need to invest in other people, there is only one person that I need to invest in, and that is myself.

That being said, investing in yourself is also a risk, but it’s a risk worth taking. When you invest in yourself there is nobody to blame but yourself. Your successes and your failures depend on you. Think about investing in yourself for a moment. Do you currently have a full time job or are you thinking about going for one? Well what would happen if you didn’t? Do you think you can generate an income on your own? Do you have something of value that you can offer to your own team? It’s not always about the money you make but also about the quality of the life you lead, remember that. I am willing to bet that you are more than capable of generating your own revenue and providing your own value, invest in yourself and find out.

Think about the worst case scenario for yourself. I obviously can’t tell you what to do, but in my case the worst case scenario of failure was not worth NOT taking a chance. In my case even if I fail I learn something, essentially I’m getting my MBA from the best school there is, reality, and the best part is that I don’t have to take out a 100k loan to pay for it. I pay for it with my time and at the end of the day if all else fails, then I can get a full time a job.

I try to invest in myself as much as I can, I am always looking for ways that I can bring value to a company that I create or to an organization that I join. The human mind and body is an amazing device that is capable of learning languages, playing instruments, marketing products, building companies, creating works of art, etc. It’s a shame to not use all of the abilities that you possess. Realistically, you can do anything you put your mind, anything at all. Invest in yourself whenever you can because your are best investment on the market, and don’t let anybody else tell you otherwise. There is one quote that I will always remember, my SAT teacher gave it to me when I was in High School, and I would like to share it with all of you, “If it is to be, it’s up to me.”

How are you investing in yourself?
